Total eclipse begins Monday December 20, 2010 at 11:41 p.m. PST, or 2:41 a.m. EST Tuesday December 21, 2010, and is expected to last 3.5 hours. The last total lunar eclipse full moon and Winter Solstice occurred on December 21, 1638.

Interestingly, after this year, we’ll have a long time to wait again until we have a December total lunar eclipse full moon occur on the same date as Winter Solstice: December 21, 2094!
